College Kpop Artist – Even though they are busy in the arts and entertainment industry, many K-Pop artists and K-Pop idols still take school and college seriously, you know. Not only continuing to the undergraduate or undergraduate level, but these Hallyu stars are also passionate about pursuing education as students up to the S2, even S3 levels.
One of them is BTS members who study between musical activities. Like RM, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, Jin, and V, are now taking Masters at Hanyang Cyber University.
These Kpop idols and trainees also received encouragement to continue their academic studies by the entertainment or management companies that shelter them, as quoted by the South China Morning Post.
Apart from being fundamental support if they do not continue a career in the entertainment industry, formal education is also seen as important for growth and self-fulfillment.
Because the entertainment industry is considered not as stable as workers in other industries, idols continue to study academically after graduating from high school and the equivalent.
The forms of education taken by K-pop idols vary, from short courses, language classes, to hunting for scholarships and doctoral schools.
College Kpop Artist – Jin BTS, for example, completed his undergraduate program at the Acting and Arts study program, Department of Film and Visual Arts, Konkuk University in 2017.
This idol whose full name is Kim Seokjin then continued his master’s education at Hanyang Cyber University.
Like Jin, RM, Suga, Jimin, J-Hope, and V also continued their Master’s studies at Hanyang Cyber University. The five of them took the MBA Advertising and Media program.
Previously, the five BTS members studied in the undergraduate program majoring in Broadcasting & Entertainment, Global Cyber University. Jungkook, the youngest member of BTS, is now following in the footsteps of his brothers by studying in the same department and campus.
Apart from BTS members, there are many K-pop idols and K-pop artists who have persistently achieved educational degrees while pursuing careers in the entertainment world.
The members of the legendary group BigBang are also diligent in the academic world. One of them is Taeyang BigBang, who is studying in Producing Performances and Images, Daejin University.
Taeyang’s thesis, “The Influence of Big Bang’s 2015 World Tour on the Sustainability of the Korean Wave” can be accessed online at the National Library of Korea. His thesis was written in his Korean name, Do Young Bae.
Besides Taeyang, T.O.P and G-Dragon also completed the master’s program. T.O.P, whose real name is Choi Seunghyun, studied his Masters in Theater and Film study program, Dankook University.
Meanwhile, G-Dragon completed his master’s study at the Retail and Distribution study program, Sejong University.
As for Girl’s Day member, Sojin, even finished her study in Mechanical Engineering, Yeungnam University with a scholarship program. She is one of 8 women in her department which consists of 1,000 students.
The Girl’s Day leader was initially criticized for studying on campus when Girl’s Day was busy. However, he later proved himself to be able to balance his dreams in education and an entertainment career.
This woman whose full name is Park Sojin tells the story that originally she wanted to become a doctor. Even so, he established himself in the Mechanical Engineering major and finished with high marks.

College Kpop Artist – K-Pop artists are not only studying in the country. Tablo, Epik High frontman, studied undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the English study program at Stanford University, United States.
Tablo’s bachelor’s degree in 3.5 years and a master’s degree at this prestigious campus made Tablo accused netizens of faking his degree in public.
Stanford then gave a statement that Tablo was indeed studying there as he stated in the media, as quoted from the official website of the Stanford University alumni magazine.
Tablo attended Stanford under the name Daniel Seon Woong Lee and was known as Dan Lee.
Although sad and nervous about making a comeback in public, Tablo returned to Stanford in May 2011 to address the Asian American Students’ Association.
As for Max Changmin, a member of TVXQ, studying in Postmodern Music, Kyung Hee University, Film and Arts at Konkuk University, and two master and Ph.D. degree programs at Inha University.
