BTS’s Successful Journey – BTS is a phenomenal boy band from South Korea. Currently, Bangtan Sonyeondan is a famous music group throughout the world.
The career journey of the group with 7 members has not been smooth. They have been through a tough struggle. Quoted from Time, in 2010 the agency that houses BTS, Big Hit recruited RM as a rapper. Then the agency also recruited Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook because of their singing, dancing, and rapping talents.
Three years later, BTS began performing the debut single “No More Dream” which criticized social pressures in Korea. Such as high expectations for school children, mental health to support for LGBTQ rights.
From various sources, it was stated that Big Hit was not a big agency at that time. But when they debuted, BTS’s spirit was burning. Until they released the video clip We Are Bulletproof PT.2 which managed to steal the attention of Kpop music lovers.
The seven of them used to live in a small dorm and slept in bunk beds, very simply. But this is also what has formed their cohesiveness to this day.
The agency that oversees BTS does understand how to make BTS more famous than before. They released the album Dark and Wild until they started their first tour to Japan and then began to hold subsequent tours in many countries.
In 2015, BTS won many awards, from the World Rookie Award to the Gaon Chart Music Award, the Disk Bonsang Golden Disc Awards to the Best World Performer Mnet Asian Music Awards.
In the same year, BTS also took third place on Billboard’s World Digital Chart and performed at Billboard Studios.
In 2016 BTS was successful with their new album WINGS and immediately topped the Billboard charts. They are the first Korean artist with the highest album sales recorded by Billboard.
For pre-orders, WINGS’ physical album sales were 500,000 and digital were 600,000. This year also BTS won the best album of the year award at the melon music awards.
The name BTS continues to be global, they collaborate with singers such as Halsey, DJ Aoki, Lil Nas X, Sia, Nicky Minaj, Becky G, Zara Larsson, Charli XCX, and Lauv.
The success of BTS succeeded in bringing Big Hit to the floor on the stock exchange. From the Initial Public Offering (IPO) Big Hit pocketed millions of US dollars. The stock price at that time experienced a surge.
Big Hit managed to raise 963 billion won and it was the largest IPO in South Korean history. Currently, Big Hit is worth 8.7 trillion won. Making it bigger than the previous biggest agencies in South Korea such as JYP Entertainment, SM Entertainment, and YG Entertainment.
This is because BTS contributed 97% of Big Hit’s sales in 2019.
Now BTS is collaborating with McDonald’s fast-food restaurants by making BTS Meal package.
Before McD, BTS was also a brand ambassador for some large companies such as Hyundai, Louis Vuitton, Puma, Fila, Tokopedia, LG Electronics, Samsung, VT Cosmetics, Mediheal, Innisfree, Lotte Duty-Free, Baskin Robbins, Coway, Netmarble, to KB Bukopin.
Quoted from seoulspace.com BTS members have a base salary of US $ 8 million. In addition, each BTS member has 68,000 HYBE shares which went public in October 2020. These shares are worth US$ 8 million for each member.
